GF119 GeForce GT 520

This is a note about installation of linux drivers for NVIDIA GF119 GeForce GT520 on Fedoara 18 from RPM Fusion repository. The general step by step instructions are provided in RPM Fusion wiki. There are also drivers provided by NVIDIA in an executable file which is (IMHO) inferior option to the standard system-wide yum package management.

  • Confirm the video card model:
/sbin/lspci | grep VGA
  • Install akmod-nvidia package from RPM Fusion (which is the choice for all recent NVIDIA models):
yum install akmod-nvidia
  • For dual monitors it is recommended to enable twinview:
nvidia-xconfig --dynamic-twinview
  • Reboot your system
reboot

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

Pre-download NVIDIA driver installer.

Check current graphical acceleration before installing drivers:

glxinfo | grep OpenGL

Black-list nouveau driver:

/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf

Content of /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf:

blacklist nouveau
options nouveau modeset=0

Reboot.

Make sure nouveau driver is not loaded:

lsmod | grep nouveau

Boot in text mode and run NVIDIA driver installer:

sudo ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-384.111.run

Make sure nvidia driver is loaded:

lsmod | grep nvidia

Check current graphical acceleration after installing drivers:

glxinfo | grep OpenGL

It should be similar to this:

OpenGL renderer string: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti/PCIe/SSE2
